THE ground leading up to the back of Morrisons in Cowdenbeath is causing real concern.

I went up there just after the New Year and found what was simply a health hazard.

It was simply fenced off but the fence had been pulled down and there was a notice on saying 'Danger Asbestos'.That was all.

It is an open area whilst suddenly after all these years, maybe 10, they put a hazard notice up.

I was always under the impression that asbestos was hazardous, weren't you?

It is another reason why the people of Cowdenbeath need to make a stand. If the Council see fit to leave this area open and do nothing about it fat chance have we got for any really important area of Cowdenbeath to be rescued and restored. Or is it that the council do not care at all?

Time after time we all believe we are getting something good, false promises so far.

On these two issues alone what could it possibly cost? A nibble out of all Funds council and others are receiving. I truly believe that many would come forward to help in many ways regarding the War Memorial, but it is just a case of bolting the stable doors just before the horses get through.

Either way these sick culprits will keep getting away with it but if you are parents and grandparents or relatives of any of this group of vandals, you may not even know it.

Try asking where they have been and what they were doing.

Perhaps the older generation within a family, may be able to reach the emotional sacrifices that others have had to bear and perhaps even the families themselves can identify with that great loss.

All those brave young men, whose names are etched on that War Memorial, and all the families of them, still grieve, but with an act of futile desecration in one evening alone, it must seem as if their acts of Bravery were lost on the youth of this country.

So we may say to all those mindless vandals, be ashamed, feel defiled, unless you change your despicable outlook on life in general your lives will become senseless.

Surely along the lot of you someone has a grain of self respect.

For if you wish to live with contempt, you will receive contempt back.

What goes around comes around, an old saying, so think deep and consider others before it is too late.

People of Cowdenbeath, we all have a duty, but most of all a pride to keep our town of Cowdenbeath, still Cowdenbeath.

None of us want vigilante justice, pray it it does not come to that. But promises are no good, only ACTION and NOW.

This council just cannot go on ignoring our precious town. It is becoming obvious to all that Cowdenbeath is being denied? It is up to us all, any little thing to help as above for example.

The council's Safer Communities Team has been working on how to improve the site leading up to Morrisons and work should soon be making this area mentioned a lot more pleasant. The Ed.
