THE problems in Cowdenbeath Public Park certainly need tackling.

There have been kids gathering there for years, from time to time, and clearly, from what has been in the Times, it has reared its ugly head again.

We really need to find out how the youngsters are getting their hands on booze, for that is the main reason for the problem.

It there was no booze then I doubt if there would be the much of a problem.

Once they get tanked up they get brave and that is when the noise and things like damage to the War Memorial happens.

It is good that local councillors are taking an interest in this because the residents up the Broomfield Road area deserve better.

I would have thought that the Community Warden people could tackle this.

This would, to me, seem right up their street, so to speak, and they could maybe be able to get through to the young people.

However, youths can be made unable to take on board common sense by consuming alcohol, just as many adults are.

One would hope that there is a way of dealing with this situation in a fairly swift manner because having a 'no go' area in your public park is not a good advert for Cowdenbeath.

In the past the police had the people power to heavily turn out in this neck of the woods but their numbers are way down now and perhaps we are reaping to rewards of that.

If you have 100 kids in the park then the two community cops is not enough.

So clearly the police people could have some decisions to make to make this go away in a positive way.

Positive has to be the word so that the youngsters are not made to feel in a corner I suppose.

We wait and wonder and hope.

Cowdenbeath.
