LOCAL councillor Darren Watt is quite right to be most unhappy at the speed of some motorists on Cowdenbeath's Perth Road.

To see a vehicle clearly going so fast that it careers across the road and then lands in a several gardens is totally unacceptable.

No matter what time of day the incident happened it could have seriously hurt a young person or someone that bit older.

While Perth Road is one which seems to attract speeders it is not the only road which is 'abused' by some drivers.

Main Street, Lumphinnans, is supposed to have a 20mph limit on it when the school is in session but a casual walk along it any day will find too many going a lot faster than 20.

And Main Street, Hill of Beath, and Stenhouse Street, Cowdenbeath, are supposed to be '20' zones all the time but that just seems to seldom happen.

Indeed, both seem to attract people that want to go an awful lot faster than 20.

So there are a lot of roads in the area that attract people keen on testing the speed of their vehicles.

It really is something that should not be happening but it seems that breaking the speed limit is a habit people get into and there is no going back.

I remember in your Letters page the late David Kinnell talking about 'Spitfire pilots' going up and down The Avenue in Lochgelly far too fast. Persistent temporary traffic lights have stopped the speeders there just now so maybe that is what is needed all over the district!

SPEED FURY,

Cowdenbeath.
