I WAS absolutely delighted top read your article in the first times of the year on the plans to open the new Maxwell Community Centre in Cowdenbeath.

Now this has been a project which has been criticised in some quarters because it has involved the use of the former Social Work office building in Stenhouse Street to create the town's first purpose built community centre.

It was interesting to see the photographs that went with your report showing that a lot of work has been done to the former Social Work offices to create the new community centre.

With the financial constraints that Fife Council is currently under I doubt that we would have ever seen a new community centre in Cowdenbeath had the project not gone down the path it has.

To be truthful I have regularly walked down Stenhouse Street and up Hill Street to keep an eye on how things have been developing and the doubters who claimed that it would be just a regurgitated Social Work building are well short of the full story.

Much of the old buildings are gone and from your photos it looks like what is left has been transformed into new big rooms.

Plus the new hall is there too so I would say there is much to enthuse over in the Maxwell Centre.

The important thing is that people adapt to it after having been based at Broad Street Centre and use it well, that is the key thing.

So I say well done Fife Council, this project looks a winner.

BELIEVER IN CENTRE,

Cowdenbeath.
