THE community council are quite right to be most unhappy at the moves by Bank of Scotland close their Lochgelly branch.

The fact that the street it is in is called Bank Street seems to tell the tale.

This has been part of Lochgelly for decades and is surely something that just cannot be swiped away at the will of some bean counter somewhere.

No doubt the use of telephones and computers for banking has seen usage of some branches in different parts of the country fall but the Lochgelly branch always seems to have people seeking help and advice.

Not so nice to get that from a phone or computer!

It does not look like these banks want to be part of communities any longer.

Not so long ago the local bank manager was a pillar of the community and in many ways played different roles away from the place of work.

Things really are getting worse and worse, it is as if people now are totally unimportant.

Come February the Bank of Scotland will no longer be in Lochgelly, but then no other bank is either so what the way ahead is God knows.

It might be alright for the younger element to use their phones to contact the bank but for the older members of the community this is going to be a difficult thing to adjust to.

BANKER,

Lochgelly.
