REGARDING the parking situation in Cowdenbeath, I wrote to the council suggesting that the biggish part behind the Boots area, that weedy and forlorn stretch, could help.

Even building a special car park for disabled people would help. Do you know that all the elderly and disabled who used to visit the High Street two or three times a week now are restricted.

First because of the closure of the No 7 Pit Road toilets.

They had to try and find a space nearer another toilet which was nearly impossible.

All that was really offered was going into pubs, the Leisure Centre or fancy even the Town House itself.

I have lost count of the times I have persuaded folk to help me hide someone, when the need of the toilet was so bad they had to use a close etc.

Their loss of dignity, even if they could manage to enter and have to ask permission if they could use the toilets was more than embarrassing.

Do the council realise what they have actually stolen from the folk of Cowdenbeath, so far?

All this for years of making our High Street have a good footfall. How? If you chase away the very people who would spend money within High Street.

As for our Green Square. I have looked at recommendations on the virtual web. It looks like the start of another Kingsgate to me. The folk of this town want an open space not filled with all they had in mind.

When is the Council committees and Fife Council going to realise that they are killing our town?

Visually I can see no dramatic influence on our High Street though I will give them credit for finally adding lights to Donald and Mary McArthur's venture at the Donibristle Cairn. Council, can you not see how little that cost to give so much back.

The same could be done for the rest of the town. The problem is so many large amounts of funds are granted to even more to help and we see nothing for it.

The War Memorial at the North End, for example, don't those who fought and died for us deserve a monument to be proud of. A CCTV camera and fines for littering would stop a lot.

I know excuses are no funds, well I for one see a lot of funds going to third parties and nothing happening.

The small things we ask and expect, funnily enough, are some of the cheapest things to install. So not only is our town being neglected, it is being ignored if it does not exist.

The only history you hear of is Rotary groups etc giving talks , but there is no practical or worse still visual historic landmark for our town. You know like a statue or what I suggested years ago, a lazy susan type of column in front or in the middle point of the Green, rotating so all pictures old and new could be seen, but with an added extra of a title-'Cowdenbeath. The Chicago of Fife' in lights around the top.

I am afraid that a skatepark and bonnie lights at the Leisure Centre are not encouraging footfall in High Street, why not put the nice lights on High Street. It is up to is ALL to stand up an be counted.
