COUNCILLOR Watt is talking bollards in Cowdenbeath High Street, but why?

I would suggest to your readers Mr Watt thinks this is popular safe ground to boost his profile and take a cheap shot at council officers.

Mr Watt says that he wants to see the High Street improved, but I would ask Mr Watt to consider why the High Street is struggling to redevelop. Could it be the impact of £22m lost from the Cowdenbeath economy as a result of Conservative welfare reform?

Is it because of the freeze in public sector wages for the last so many years? Or is it the result of free markets promoted by Conservative policy for many years?

I would suggest that instead of Mr Watt having a go at council officers he has a long hard look at the policies of his party, the party of austerity, the party of tax cuts for the wealthy, the Conservative Party.

Instead of having a go at people trying to make a difference, why is he not bringing forward positive proposals to improve the high street? Why is he then not making a case for more funding? The reason is its easier for him to have a go at someone else’s idea.

The previous Labour administration ensured investment directly in the High Street which is still to be delivered.

They also ensured investment in a new community centre which is due to open soon.

In this year’s budget a further £1.7m was invested in the redevelopment of Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre. Interestingly the Conservative group voted against all of these investments.

It’s clear that if Mr Watt is serious about improving Cowdenbeath High Street he is in the wrong party.

THE AGGRESSIVE PROGRESSIVE,

Cowdenbeath.
