I WOULD like to thank Maureen Kennedy for taking the time to write a passionate and heartfelt letter to the Times last week and I would like to address some of her concerns.

I firstly want to say that I will not support or allow The Town House to be sold on or demolished.

It belongs to the people of Cowdenbeath and always will.

I visited the building a few weeks ago to get a clearer understanding of the space and potential. I was completely in awe but at the same time saddened by it's lack of life and activity.

We are so blessed to have such a wonderful, historic building and it deserves to be brought back to life. Unfortunately, the building is incredibly deceptive from the front and is in fact very large and spans several floors which in itself can be a negative as most facilities these days are purpose built and easily accessible for elderly, disabled visitors and young families.

That said, we must do all we can to encourage the positives about The Town House. It has ample parking at the rear, is just a couple of miles away from both the A92 and the M90 and is a very short walk to other transport links. I personally think it would be a stunning venue for a wedding and evening reception as well as other formal events and activities.

I too, am very concerned about our High Street, especially as we lost several businesses last month and now have more derelict buildings adding to the 20+ we already have. We hear so much talk about improvements to infrastructure and other future projects yet we see no immediate action. Please be assured I will certainly be seeking answers.

If Maureen or anyone else would like to discuss their concerns and these issues further with me, please don't hesitate to get in touch - cllr.darren.watt@fife.gov.uk / 07872 423 863
