SUNDAY 27 August saw the annual hosting of Cardenden Village Fair at Wallsgreen Park.

The Fair was officially opened by the traditional releasing of the pigeons provided by St Serf’s Racing Pigeon Club.

Cllrs Linda Erskine and Rosemary Liewald were our honorary guests along with Peter Grant MP.

Despite the forecasts Cardenden saw another spectacularly successful day filled with sunshine and fun.

In the centre-ring entertainment was provided with performances and demonstrations by Cowdenbeath Detachment of the Army Cadets; Suzette Twirlers; Bowhill Karate Club; Kirkcaldy Pipe Band; Sarah Hendry School of Dance and Remus Equestrian.

Between performances Children’s Races were organised under the excellent supervision of John Gilfillan. The Committee are very grateful for his dedication to our Fair every year.

Alba Falconry put on a splendid display of birds of prey; Dunmilkin Kinnaird Findatie Clydesdales and carriage was busy giving children rides around the park

Over in the far field Glenrothes Aeromodelling Club, regular attenders, offered the experience of flying remote model aircraft.

Remus Equestrian offered pony rides near the playpark and funfair attractions were provided by Andrew Masterton Leisure. The Cardenden Santa Train also paid us a visit.

Cardenden Village Fair is fortunate to attract an exceptional display of unique Crafts stalls with beautiful gifts.

Regular information stalls were available from Bowhill Community Centre’s community based Adult Learning in conjunction with Fife College; the Local History Group, Photography and the Workers Educational Association; Cardenden Community Development Forum, the Environment Group and the Playpark Committee.

We were given CPR demonstrations by St Andrew’s First Aid; community information guidance with Green Watch Fire Appliances from Lochgelly and Dave Roy from Crime Prevention Scotland.

We were also delighted to be able to help many local charities raising funds for their causes with the kind generosity of Cardenden Village friends and families.

Cardenden Village Fair committee would like to thank all who attended, especially the children who were so well behaved, many of the stall holders remarking on how polite they were.

A big thank you to the Scouts who help set up, provide hospitality and tidy away after the event. We were delighted in how tidy everyone left the park this year. Thank you to all our sponsors for your wonderful support!

BOB MARTIN,

Chairman, Cardenden Village Fair Committee.
