I WAS down at Lochore Meadows Country Park last week and was delighted to see the new park visitor centre well underway.

Had we not had all the debate over the project last autumn maybe it would have been built by now.

However, at least it is up and running and hopefully within a matter of a few months it will be completed.

The park without its visitor centre is a little bit like an hotel without its dining room but it had to happen some time to get a replacement for the old past its sell-by date centre.

In saying that the staff at the Outdoor Recreation Centre were doing a roaring trade when I was there and handling things very efficiently.

Also it is good to see the golf clubhouse/football changing facility underway on the road into the park, another much needed facility.

When I think back to these days of public meetings in the run up to Christmas to discuss the plans for a new park centre, I could see where the people opposing the current design were coming from.

However, if the funding was there for it but only for a certain time, it was something that had to go ahead.

The old park centre simply was not designed to last for half a century and that was where it was heading.

The new park centre will quickly take shape with its modular style of building and hopefully within a few months it will be finished and give the park the new facility it needs.

Meanwhile the staff at the Outdoor Education Centre are doing a grand job and long may it continue.

MEEDIES MINDER,

Lochore.
