I WAS amazed at your story in last week's paper which told of how ten pupils at Lochgelly High School are set to head for the Arctic early next year.

It is indeed excellent that the school should be chosen for this project which will see the pupils having to handle themselves in the most exacting of conditions.

I would imagine it is simply not possible, in such an exacting environment, to remove all potential dangers so the kids could face some dangerous situations.

But what this will do is give them a real taste of life on a challenging stage and give them experiences that at their stage they just could not have expected to meet.

It is really fantastic to have Lochgelly High heading for the Arctic only a short time after Beath High School pupils were in Africa strengthening links with their partner schools in Malawi.

Both our secondary schools on international duty and it really will be something that benefits both schools.

For while there may be only ten kids going to the Arctic, what they learn and bring back will be something that they will be able to tell all their fellow pupils.

This is set to be a great venture and I hope that they really enjoy it and I am sure they will be great ambassadors for Lochgelly.

Lochgelly.
