THERE has been a stream of negativity about the flaring at Mossmorran.

Now yes, it is very prominent when it happens but lets be fair it is not that often.

I am glad that Exxon have made it clear that flaring is part of the safety systems at the petro-chemical complex for every time there is a flaring incident it is purely the safety mechanism bursting into life.

When you look at things from a balanced view months can go by without any flaring at all. And the Shell site seldom if ever flares.

So really is this as big a deal as is being made out?

No doubt there will be a big turn out at Wednesday's meeting at the town hall but it will be mostly the people who have disliked the complex since it was established 35 years ago.

Maybe the anti brigade need to cool their jets a bit and take a step back.

The Mossmorran site is still a biggish employer in the area and also makes donations to local good causes so they are keen to be seen as good neighbours to the communities such as Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly, Crossgates and Auchtertool along with Lumphinnans.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of the public meeting. I feel it will be all negativity.

Perhaps if reps from Exxon are there they can help head off some of that negativity.

GAS MAN,

Lochgelly.
