A YEAR ago I wrote a letter to the Times complaining about the state of North End Park in Cowdenbeath.

There was some work done to improve it but now things have got doubly worse.

This former proud football pitch, the former home of Cowdenbeath FC, is now a complete wilderness.

The variety of weeds in the former pitch is really stunning and worth a look if you have a spare half hour.

I know that a developer is supposed to be building two retail units on the site but all their pre-publicity of early in the year so far has produced nowt.

Meanwhile, as the growing season has gone into full swing the long grass all around the pavilion and on the pitch is getting out of hand.

It will need industrial cutters to get this mess under control.

At a time when the SUSTRANS project is going to bring a new look to the town over a period of months, to have this mess at the north end of High Street is surely not right.

With the awful Crown Hotel dereliction on one side and the wilderness of North End Park on the other, it leaves the North End looking well short of its best.

I would like to think that the four new local councillors will get tucked in to this problem and try and get the North End site at least tidied in some sort of way.

The summer has just begun and if we get quite a bit of moisture along with the usual warmth God knows what the pitch and surrounds will be like come October.

There is not much point making most of High Street look really good when we have a mess like this just a couple of hundred yards away.

NORTH ENDER,

Cowdenbeath.
