MAY I say that Gary Locke deserves a Knighthood for the work he did in keeping Cowdenbeath in the SPFL after he took over from Liam Fox.

The mess that the Hearts man left behind was indeed a big one and yet Gary Locke and Billy Brown did a brilliant job which was there for all to see who watched the team.

No, it was a tremendous job both Gary and Billy, aided by Zorro, did to preserve the league status of one of Scottish football's oldest clubs.

Indeed, the delight on the face of Neil Irvine after the East Kilbride game was almost as broad as the smile he had when he skippered the team to promotion.

It just showed that a bit of experience was what Mr Fox lacked.

If he had that help when things were not going well he could have maybe pulled things around, but it simply was not there.

What he learned in his six or seven months at the helm of the Blues will stand him in good stead in years to come.

It really was what he needed around the turn of the year when there was just himself and his young assistant at a time when an auld heid was needed to offer key advice.

You saw when Gary Locke, Billy Brown and Zorro arrived how things changed.

But in saying all that Colin Nish found it hard going until Jason Dair appeared on the scene to offer assistance and there was an improvement in the performances then too.

I think that it has been pretty clear that Mr Fox found it all a bit much for him where with an experienced number two beside him he could have maybe toughed it out.

Hopefully Gary, Billy and Zorro will stick around and take the team into next season for we do not want that alarm of the end of the season to be repeated.

Indeed, we want to see a team that it is up there challenging for promotion.

Any way I thank Gary and his backroom team for all they did in what was a bad time for the club.

BLUE RAZILIAN,

Cowdenbeath.
