THE story in the Times last week about the problems at Ballingry Cemetery are indeed worrying.
If there are staff problems just now impacting on the cemetery it can only get worse.
Certainly when I have been going to pay visits I have noticed problems with the length of grass in both the old and new cemeteries.
Indeed, I did see one man with a small lawn mower trimming the grave he was visiting.
The bins are too few and not big enough so the problems there is no surprise either.
The two newly elected councillors were right to kick-up about it for a cemetery is a place that should be kept in perfect nick for the families of lost ones to visit.
If it is staffing problems that are causing the issues then what is going to happen when budgets get even tighter?
The grass cutters might only pay a visit once a month or less and in mid summer that could lead to a real mess.
Hopefully the lady at the council who runs the cemeteries is right and that it is only a short term problem but then again it can start like that then become a major nightmare.
MOURNER,
Ballingry.
