IT is an interesting mix of candidates in the two local wards for the Fife Council elections.

While the eight councillors may well come from the Labour and SNP ranks there is the possibility that the mix of seven contenders in each seat could lead to a shock.

In Cowdenbeath and Kelty there is a Lib Dem candidate along with a Green and Conservative to contest the seat.

The Lib Dem is an experienced campaigner and has been involved in running the council so she will be able to hold her own and I must say that I have been impressed with the enthusiasm of the Tory in this ward for he seems a real community guy.

The Green candidate will no doubt have support so the question is can any of them pose a problem for the the former Labour and SNP councillors fighting the seat?

In the Lochgelly, Cardenden and Benarty seat we have two former members of the last Area Committee taking on five hopefuls.

Labour’s two former councillors will have a fight on their hands to keep out the challenge of the two new contenders from the SNP and an Independent, Green and Conservative.

It is good that the Times is running its political pages and we can read what the candidates have to say.

But how things will pan out will be interesting. Clearly the Labour and SNP candidates will be the favourites in this seat too but the presence of an Independent who is very well known locally, would make an impact.

We have another week to go before polling day and no doubt the candidates will be doing their utmost to attract support and it will be very interesting to see the final results.

POLLER,

Cowdenbeath.
