SO we have won mess in Cardenden set to go but another which for me is much more stubborn.

The shop which the Community Development Forum have bought and will be organising its demolition certainly needs to be tackled.

It could not be in a worst position being on the path from the rail station, the first thing that visitors see when they get off the train.

Its drab look has been a feature of Station Road for a long time and I think we need to get rid of it.

But the thing is that the former Miners Institute building in Main Street is much more of an eyesore.

For many years this was a proud building which was the centre of social life among the miners of the ABCD villages and was a real asset to community life.

In the 1970s and 1980s it was used by Fife Regional Council as a youth centre and it was part of weekly life for many youngsters in Cardenden.

However, over the the best part of 20 years it has gone steadily downhill and now is fenced off for safety reasons.

It is indeed a sad sight and lack of any sort of maintenance has left only one future for the structure, to come down.

However, how and when that can be achieved is another matter.

It would appear that the owners are looking for a considerable sum for the site which presumably would be developed for housing.

But the thing is that it needs to be dealt with sooner rather than later because is really is a blight on the Main Street.

There has been people in village suggesting that the bricks from the former Institute could be used to build the miner's cottage that is to be built on the former Happyland in Lochgelly.

That would be a good used for the bricks but how ling will it take for that to happen?

There needs to be something done soon or this blight will remain with us for a lot longer than we want.

BLIGHTER,

Cardenden.
