HOW interesting the news that little Ava Stark has been chosen by the Anthony Nolan Trust to be the face of their new campaign.

The plucky Lochgelly tot, who celebrated her fourth birthday in January has been chosen to lead an awareness campaign encouraging more people to join its donor register.

Ava, whose happy smile hid her serious illness, was diagnosed with inherited bone marrow failure and was at higher risk of developing cancer or leukaemia unless she had a stem-cell transplant that would allow her immune system to fight off infection.

Happily Ava's stem cell transplant was a big success and she is now getting ever better.

She really has been a little star. Despite her illness she was always buzzing about when she was at events organised to promote the stem cell donor tests in the autumn with a huge smile on her face.

Ava certainly was taken to everyone's heart during that period and I am sure that her face will go a long way to advertising the Anthony Nolan Trust Awareness campaign.

It was also interesting to read you article on the efforts of the pupils at Lochgelly High School in keeping the momentum going in making people know about the need for people to take the donor test.

Their commitment to the cause is also something of an inspiration and I feel there will not be many people in this area now that does not know the need for stem cell donors.

Ava's appealing little face will be used by the Trust in an appealing way to encourage people all over the UK to think about taking the test.

The fats are simple, the more who take the test the more people will be able to be matched with someone who needs a transplant and the donor will be helping save a life.

So all power to Ava and the Trust and hopefully Lochgelly will get a good name too from the promotional campaign.

ANTHONY NOLAN,

Lochgelly.
