HOW interesting it is that the Lochgelly, Benarty and Cardenden ward is to have an independent candidate involved in forthcoming Fife Council elections.

James Glen is to stand against the political parties and it will be very interesting to see how many votes he can realise.

In the old days you used to get quite a lot of Independents standing in wards but that really died a death 30 or 40 years ago.

The party machines have kind of dominated local elections since then but maybe Mr Glen will ask questions of the party people.

A lot has been said about the public being kind of turned off by politics at all levels.

But Mr Glen has never been slow to get involved in local issues through the Times and the website Loch of Shining Waters so he knows what is going on locally and will be able to question the people representing the big parties.

Things go in phases so it could be that the time has come again for an Independent to make an impact.

It used to be the Ratepayers' candidates who posed problems for Labour Tories and SNP, but nowit could be Mr Glen.Time will tell.

VETERAN ELECTOR,

Lochgelly.
