THERE is a lot of excitement in the Lochgelly community about the choice of Francis Street for the the new health centre.

I must say that has to be the best possible site for this in the town.

You could not get anything more central and there is so much space there it is bound to work perfectly.

Maybe getting the money together will take a bit more hard work by the campaigners and MSP Annabelle Ewing but it sure is something that will give Lochgelly a real boost.

But can I say that the issue connected with the proposals for Francis Street that really excites me is the plan to build a big car park on the site.

The problem in Lochgelly is getting ever worse, just take a walk down Francis Street any day or along East Main Street and there is nothing but cars parked illegally.

Bank Street is not much better, especially at the junction with Francis Street and with the lack of traffic wardens there is no deterrent to the illegal parking.

So the fact that there are proposals for a big car park connected to the Health Centre project is a chance to get the Lochgelly car parking problems sorted out for once and for all.

The number of vehicles that want to park on a daily basis in the centre part of the town must run to hundreds and there is simply currently no space for them.

Any forenoon is disorganised chaos in the centre of the town so creating a massive car park in Francis Street could stop the problems getting worse and maybe sort it out completely.

In the short term, however, the chaos is bound to continue unfortunately so hopefully the health centre plans will not be delayed too long.

Persuading the Scottish Government to get this plan going could be a problem though for it is not going to be a cheap project and the Holyrood bunch do not seem that keen to part with much needed cash for good schemes.

The fact is that it would sort Lochgelly’s lack of decent health centre cover and also the disastrous car parking system in the town.

So to progress this would be a win, win situation so hopefully Ms Ewing can persuade her colleagues in Government circles that Lochgelly deserves to have the money granted for this project.

What a difference it would make to the town, so hopefully the powers that be will listen?

PARKER,

Lochgelly.
