SO the councillors voted to give the new Meedies Park Visitor Centre the green light.

Could I say ehre that I am not surprised. Now I have to say that it was very important that people listened to what Willie Clarke had to day.

For he is someone who knows more about Lochore Meadows Country Park than any other person.

I read the articles he was quoted in very closely and he is very concerned, I think, that the park could have been left without a visitor centre. Now that truly would have been a disaster.

Any park without a facility to greet visitors would be at a huge disadvantage.

Portable buildings providing toilet and cafe facilities are a huge turn off and that would be no good at all for the Meedies.

I would say that something had to be done because the old centre has been closed now for a couple of months and that has done it no good at all.

Time is short because really the season starts for the park in April and that leaves only a few short weeks.

Presumably work on the proposed visitor centre could begin pretty swiftly but even at that it would mean that the early stages of the season would have to be covered by temporary facilities.

So it may be one way or another that this is not going to be an easy year for the Meedies.

I only hope that they do not dilly-dally around, something needs to be happening quickly to ensure that the park is not left hanging out to dry.

Maybe the proposed visitor centre is not the best that we could have but at this late stage it might simply be the best we can have.

When the council heads come out to Benarty and Kelty they will be able to explain what the approach is going to be.

The thing is that the park is not left in limbo as that would have been simply no use at all.

So lets get weaving and at least have the park with some sort of permanent facility in place by the summer.

MEEDIES MAN,

Ballingry.
