I AM angry at the pace with which Cowdenbeath High Street is supposed to be developing.

People know how I feel about the Town House being used for a museum etc., but another problem which could have helped this area regarding congestion and people getting into the town alone, is McLeod Place, the entrance to Morrisons from High Street.

About two years ago I wrote to certain people and the council suggesting a few things.

The first and simplest was to widen the road entrance at McLeod Place, so that cars coming out especially would not be held up.

I suggested taking a bit of each pavement and adding road lines to the carriageway so that cars leaving right or left, would not hold each other up.

It was worse when the roads works were going on.

Do the council not realise that this hold up area cause a lot of people to avoid our town, yet with Christmas on its way was nothing was done.

It will be the same old story, that they are going to do this or organise that, but it never gets done.

Another suggestion was for a 'landmark' at the front of the green on High Street.

I suggested perhaps a green area about six or seven feet tall covering with photos of all over Cowdenbeath, but hung in a slanting way. These could have been covered with perspex or something similar. But the main thing was to have a true landmark.

This enlarged type of Lazy Susan could have been lit, but the most important thing was our identity.

That was to have been printed high on top of the front pillar, 'Cowdenbeath the Chicago of Fife'. Both of these names to be lit up especially at night.

What this would have achieved was curiosity regarding photos, as many would want to see again and again, especially if made is a quessing format.

But with a pillar lit up it would be a proud and distinctive landmark itself but to show to others this town with pride and finally have a landmark. All other towns around have!

Again I was only suggesting a small diameter of about three feet and perhaps six to seven feet tall, bigger if a bit bigger, and if set up in the very front and middle of the green adjoining almost the pavement.

This would be a welcomed feature and not blocking any other project needed.

But we 'need' a feature a true landmark of our own.

Naturally it would have to be truly lit up, especially the names of Cowdenbeath and The Chicago of Fife.

Why oh why are we being denied all the small things that could portray Cowdenbeath in a better light.

One thing is sure until we have an actual Landmark we are never going to be classed as a town just something, put on hold.

By putting notice boards up in the Public Park where vandals will be and the elderly with no car access. not being able to reach or probably care, what is the point.

The High Street, we have been told, is the focal point to concentrate on, then why suddenly cover all out of road areas?

The council surely saw what happened after closure of the Pit Road toilets, no one look at or cared about notice boards.

We need something to get people hooked and proud of our town once more.

False promises keep getting made now we all realise they are just that, false, to give false hope is cruel.
