I WAS very pleased to read in the Times about the progress being made by the group raising money to build a sensory garden at the new care village being constructed in Lumphinnans.

This is a major project which is unique in the area which will replace the Valley House and Jenny Gray House old folks homes.

I know that the sensory garden idea has been on the go for about 18 months and the Times article suggested that they were nearing £30,000 which is an amazing success story in itself.

The sensory garden idea has clearly shown how it can be so beneficial to dementia sufferers and in the circumstances you might think that the authorities would ensure each such facility would have one.

Clearly cost situations ensure that this cannot happen so the sort of thing started by Dick Campbell has been brilliant.

I know that the Times carried a story when the fund started about Dick wanting the best possible sensory garden for Lumphinnans and the efforts of his committee have things heading in that direction.

Hopefully by the time the Care Village is nearing completion the fund will allow him to create that garden.

GARDENER,
