TV and film doommongers are forever moaning that there are no new ideas out there any more. And after this year - when Star Trek was one of the best performing films and it was announced like week Being Human was being remade with an American cast/setting, you've got to wonder if that's a fair summation of the entertainment industry.
But for every Battlestar Galactica and Abrams-helmed Star Trek there are a handful of Flash Gordons and Knight Riders.
Latest up and starting this week in the US is a remake of V, the old school 80s scifi show about earth's first encounter with an alien race. Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or Vs) promote a message of peace, offering to share their technology. But as the world splits between wanting to trust the new arrivals, the debate begins about exactly what the motivation of the Vs - cooperation or invasion?
Packed with scifi veterans - including Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell who plays FBI Counter Terrorist Agent Erica Evans, Morena Baccarin from Firefly as the leader of the Vs, and The 4400's Joel Gretsch, the first ten minutes of the first episode have just been released online to allow people to see whether this will be TV heaven or TV hell:
What do YOU think? Will you be watching V when it airs in the UK?
What other TV shows / films do you think deserve a remake - and which should be left in the vault to languish forever?
