SPEEDING is a problem in every community the length and breadth of the land.

Each city, town and village has a group of motorists for whom the speed limit signs mean absolutely nothing.

If it is 20mph, they want to do more than that and it is the same in a 30 limit of '40' or '70'.

The motorway is not immune and as the late David Kinnell would have coined: 'There are Spitfire Pilots everywhere'.

Kelty has its own share of the pilots who have a desire to race about everywhere. It is indeed a major problem.

So Alex Campbell is quite correct to ask that there are appropriate measures in place to try to persuade those who want to beat the speed limit that it is not only illegal but dangerous.

Kelty Main Street has indeed seen one or two serious accidents in the past months and it is a thoroughfare that really demands respect.

There is not only a school on this length of road but the village community centre and of course a busy retail area so there are bound to be a lot of pedestrians going about each day.

So hopefully the speeders will take heed that it is not a race track and stick to the limit but maybe 20 would be more effective than 30 for such a busy area.
