THE problems that residents in Cowdenbeath's Broomfield Road have experienced over recent years are well documented and the fact that the War Memorial should come in for attention from vandals is very regrettable.

But the situation in Cardenden where the brand new John Thomson Football Centre should attract paint throwers is both surprising and concerning.

The damage caused to both the 3G pitch, sign and fence is indeed mindless.

This is a facility that came out of hard work by a lot of local volunteers and is one which is a real boon to the younger element and to local amateur sides.

So why someone should want to throw paint at it is very strange indeed.

The attack has certainly taken Cardenden by surprise for up to last weekend the worst that had happened in that part of Wallsgreen Park was some dog walkers failing to pick up after their animals.

It is very possible that the perpetrators are not local. There has been problems recently of young people coming to Cardenden from other town and village and that is a concern.

And it could make it more difficult to trace who carried out the act.

Hopefully that will not be the case for it is totally wrong that this fine facility should be wantonly damaged in this way.
