SATURDAY March 17, it marks one year since my election victory but also to the start of the countdown of my second and final year as MSYP for the Constituency.

It has been a good year, packed with lots of good work and I am so proud of what myself, my team and the Scottish Youth Parliament has achieved in that time. I’ve been working on things such as Period Poverty, Young People’s Rights, Brexit and many more issues that are affecting young people.

In the past year I have began my youth surgeries, which have been well attended every time. This is giving young people a platform to get their voice heard and something done about an issue they feel strongly about.

I have also begun to start work on creating Lochgelly’s newest youth forum, with politically active young people, who feel passionate about an issue and their home town – who want to act as a voice for change for all young people in Lochgelly. Information on this will come out shortly, and I cannot wait.

I was co-opted on to Cowdenbeath Area Committee and have been asking appropriate questions on items presented that affect young people to ensure you all have a voice at such an important forum. I look forward to continuing my work with the committee over the course of the next year.

I have also been working with Cllr Fay Sinclair, Convener of the Education and Children’s Services Committee and Carrie Lindsay, Executive Director for Education and Children’s Services, to get a seat for young people at the table. This has been a key priority for me as all decisions taken by this committee affect young people’s day to day life, yet they have no voice on this committee. I look forward to meeting with Cllr Sinclair and Carrie in the coming weeks and months on this.

When I was elected, I made one thing clear – that I would bring your voice, all young people’s voice to the forefront of local government. I have brought your voice to important people such as Carrie Lindsay, HRH Prince Harry, Nicola Sturgeon, and many more important figures. I hope over the next year, and for many years still to come – to be able to continue being your voice, and getting the best for each and every young person in the Cowdenbeath Constituency.

If any young person (12-25) has an issue/concern they’d like me to raise, or wants to know more about my work, please get in touch by emailing hello@syp.org.uk, or following me on Twitter: @BaileyLeeMSYP'
