Help fund local projects

There are a number of brilliant local projects that you can help secure a grant for in the annual Aviva Community Fund. Kids Come First is a Benarty-based charity providing care and leisure opportunities for primary-aged children. They want to start an Outdoor Education Experience Programme giving kids a range of pursuits. Racing team Project 24 in Crosshill want to provide fun activities for young people based on science and technology. Meanwhile, Re-Employ wish to create a new Business Development Manager post for their Re-employABLE project that will help enhance their work. It will create new opportunities for ex-services personnel and veterans. You have a total of ten votes, so why not spread them between all of the above or choose the one that’s closest to your heart! Visit the Aviva website for more details.

We will remember them

This Sunday is Remembrance Day. It’s a solemn and poignant occasion as we remember the local men and women who went to fight for our country, never to return. The first service for Cowdenbeath’s Remembrance Day Services take place at the WW1 memorial at 1.30pm. The parade from the library is at 2.25pm and the service at WW2 memorial will be at 2.30pm. If you’re outwith Cowdenbeath, get in touch with your community council to find out about memorial services in your own village or town or take the opportunity to donate to Poppy Scotland who do some great work in supporting our veterans all year round.

Stay warm this winter

The cold weather is now upon us so I'm urging Central and West Fife households to stay warm and keep a step ahead of winter. Please check to see if you're on the best tariff and get advice on being energy efficient. I'm encouraging people to get in touch with their energy supplier to find out what support is on offer. Scottish Gas customers can call 0800 072 8625 to see if their eligible for a warm home discount.

Cost of Brexit

BREXIT could cost Fife billions in lost economic growth, according to a new report. This is a glimpse into the damage that could be done by Britain crashing out of the EU. Scotland is on the precipice of suffering huge economic damage which could cost our economy up to £1.7bn. It’s now becoming abundantly clear there is no such thing as a good Brexit and I just hope we can hold onto as many jobs as we can through this era of UK incompetence. The fact that the UK Government is withholding their own detailed reports regarding the impact of Brexit on the Scottish economy tells it own story!
