AT a time when Lochgelly has seen so much done to clear away the dereliction of the past it is no surprise that the town's community council is unhappy at what is happening, or rather not happening, with the Fabtec site.

It has been a talking point on the streets for years but it is only really since the work on the new housing area at the foot of High Street was completed that people have started to really feel that the time has come to get this problem area highlighted.

It certainly sticks out like a sore thumb, and with the RockGelly project also reaching completion, the state of the former factory premises is not good at all.

Local councillors are unhappy with the situation, quite rightly, but how does the circle get squared.

As one of our letter writers points out there have been problems in Cowdenbeath with the former Crown Hotel building being left derelict for years due to the owners of it showing a lack of desire to make things happen.

This could be the same situation, so perhaps there can be another way of sorting this through the Scottish Government's legislation which allows action to be taken on property that is having a negative effect on a community!
