THE gold medal won by the Crossgates Greenfingers Group was a worthy won but really every local community's environmental activists deserve a gold.

Crossgates' Main Street looks good as do other streets in the village through the careful creation of floral features.

But then the story is the same in Kelty, Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly, Cardenden and Benarty.

The work of a few committed members of environmental groups see some lovely features placed around the main thoroughfares of local communities which really make a huge difference.

Just look at the Fountain roundabout area in Cowdenbeath where excellent floral displays give the busy roundabout a nice ambience.

In Benarty it starts on the B921 in Glencraig heading for Crosshill, Lochore and Ballingry with hanging baskets and then some impressive larger features and of course the impressive Miners Memorial Garden at The Shank.

Lochgelly's Bank Street and Main Street are given a nice summer ambience and the story is the same in both Kelty and Cardenden.

The fact is that a very few people create these lovely features and with a little more help they could make even a bigger difference.

So why not think about helping your local environmental group, even an hour a month would be warmly welcomed by the enthusiasts.
