IT is excellent that the Coalfields Regeneration Trust Futures Initiative has reached Lumphinnans.

At the weekend villagers were asked to go along to a fun day at the Community Primary School and take part in choosing what their priorities are for improving the village.

The Futures idea has proved to be a massive success in several local villages with Cardenden the first to benefit and then Benarty, Kelty and Crossgates, following on with it being given a lot of support by respective villagers.

So now it is the turn of Lumphinnans, very much a product of coal mining, with its pits and Miners Welfare Social Club the hub of a flourishing community for the best part of 70 years.

Although the village is smaller in 2017 it has a lot going for it with the latest feature being the new Care Village so the Futures Initiative will keep the groundswell of positivity moving forward.

While the sports hub at Gagarin Way is a very popular facility there are other aspects of the village which can be spruced up and Futures fund which is there to be used by the villagers can speed that along.
