LOCAL MSP Annabelle Ewing was quite right to say that youngsters carrying out under-age drinking at Cowdenbeath's First World War memorial are showing abject lack of respect for those who paid the ultimate price serving their country.

The problem is the youngsters really do not recognise the significance of the site of their meetings and at times under-age drinking sessions.

They will know that it is something which is important to the town but will not be aware that it is something that remembers all those who lost their lives in the Great War.

At the end of the day for them it is a secluded spot that gives them the chance to have a fly drink without being bothered.

Hopefully the increased police patrols and visits by Community Wardens may help get over to them that it is not the appropriate place to carry out their meetings.

The lack of respect being paid to those who lost their lives in the Great War is disappointing but hopefully this can be corrected in a way which gets the young people on board and helps them become good and valuable Cowdenbeath citizens.
