HOPEFULLY Fife Council will find someone to take on the crossing patrol duties in the central part of the village.

To not have any applicants for the post has been a strange thing for Fife Council to have had to deal with.

As the village of Kelty has got bigger and bigger the volume of traffic up and down the Station Road-Cocklaw Street main thoroughfare has increased dramatically.

With a planning application being considered for 900 more homes the population will again rise with the following effect on traffic numbers on this key road.

Now these factors will have an effect on the demands on the job of the crossing officer.

So it will be no easy job but it needs to be done and it is important for the children of St Joseph’s and Kelty Primary Schools.

It is all about road safety for Kelty so that is the key factor.

There are several hundred children having to cross the busy Main Street, Cocklaw Street and Station Road carriageways each school day and they deserve help to keep safe.

The quicker someone is in post the better to make things safer but the roads officials of the local authority seem to be aware of how difficult the task is but drivers in the village can help by being aware of the dangers that exist on these roads.
