THE court case featured in last week's Times where a Lochore man who made a 'Citizen's Arrest' and was given an absolute discharge by the Sheriff at Dunfermline was indeed an interesting one.
The man was unhappy a vandalism to his van and apprehended a culprit and took him to the police station.
In law he was adjudged to have committed an assault by his actions but the Sheriff's decision meant that the case was basically struck from the record.
Many people will have agreed with the Sheriff's judgement on the case but it should not be the opening of a vigilante war on crime.
The man involved in the case took the action after frustration at being able to get police at the appropriate time he needed them.
The fact is that people should not take the law into their own hands and if something happens to you that needs police attention call 101, don't take your own action.
