AN interesting point has been brought up by lib Dem leader on Fife Council, Tim Brett, on the lack of use of the Tenancy Transfer Incentive scheme to get people into more suitably sized housing.

At a time when housing shortages have been described as at 'crisis' levels the transfer scheme was delivered to help make it easier for people to 'swap' homes to get something more suitable for their uses.

But as Councillor Brett pointed out The Transfer Incentive scheme should be encouraging tenants in over-large accommodation to move into smaller

homes but unfortunately it is not working effectively. Fewer than 60 tenants took advantage of the scheme during the past two years.

Perhaps the housing department needs to re-advertise the scheme to better promote it for there must be dozens of tenants in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area along who could use the facility to move to more suited accommodation.

In 2016 we carried several stories about families struggling to cope with their accommodation needing four bedroom homes to house their children.

Bigger homes are being constructed but in the short term these families need to look to the likes of the TTI process to help ease their problems.

If families can benefit from the scheme they should not wait, simply get the process moving, it could make all the difference.
