LOCHGELLY Community Council is quite right to be keeping the town's health centre issue on the agenda.

A lot of progress has been made but frustration will grow until a decision comes from NHS Fife and the Scottish Government to go ahead with a replacement for the facility in David Street.

There is virtually no one in the corridors of power saying that the health centre is up to standard.

Virtually everyone agrees that it needs to go but the problem, as ever, is financing the project.

NHS Fife can make all the positive noises they want but unless they are given the green light by Holyrood David Street is going to remain the health centre for Lochgelly.

I would say that there is a good voice in the camp in the shape of MSP Annabelle Ewing. She seems committed to the need for a new health centre but persuading the powers to be to come up with the cash in the short term will not be easy.

However, there is no better thing there to push the case for a replacement than the David Street building itself. It is too small for the job and with Lochgelly expected to increase in size over the next two to three years the inadequacy of David Street will become all too plain.

So the community council should keep beating the drum and their prayers may well be answered.
