THERE is plenty of concern out there about the bus services that serve the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area.

The fact that the Cowdenbeath Area Committee has voted to write to the Scottish Government shows the concern that is felt by councillors.

Certainly most of the worries tabled have been about the services that the Stagecoach organisation have tweaked or removed following their summer consultation process.

There is no doubt that certain of the communities have been treated worse than others. Auchtertool, Dundonald and Mossgreen have seen locally valued services removed.

The bus company is a big organisation which has to run with a healthy profit margin and some of the routes that have been reduced or removed have been those that are not well used.

The problem is that does not help the people needing a link to the hospital outpatient departments or one down to the village shops like in Crossgates.

The councillors aim to take their case to the the Scottish Transport Minister who will certainly give them a hearing but it will be hard to persuade Holyrood to consider re-regulation of the bus services.

However, if the right case is made who knows, there could be yet some movement which could help local communities.
