The maintenance programme being undertaken at the Fife Ethylene Plant at Mossmorran has led to persistent flaring. Lochgelly community campaigner James Glen feels that the noise levels associated with the flaring are unacceptable and has asked SEPA to intervene.

Ieuan Williams hit the High Street to ask: "Do you think James Glen is right to involve the environment agency?"

"I think it's a definitely a good idea to get SEPA involved. We don't know what is being burnt off. Lots of children have been taken ill by it over the years as well." - Pat Torrance, Paxton Crescent, Lochgelly.

"I live in one of the closest houses to it and there's been damage done to my house from the vibrations off it. Something needs to be done." - Jacky McKenna, Brucefield Terrace, Lochgelly.

"Of course it's a good idea. When the wind is blowing you can hear it very loudly, and the smell that comes off it. I'm not surprised there's a campaign about it at all." - Matthew Hoggan, Swintons Place, Hill of Beath.

"I don't know why they have to burn the gas off in the way they do. I think there's an alternative that they might be able to find." - Alex Arnott, Droverhall Avenue, Crossgates.
