IT is excellent for the entire Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area that we are to see £1.8m spent on refurbishment of facilities at Lochore Meadows Country Park.

The Meadows was transformed from pit spoil to one of Fife's biggest attractions in the early 1970s and as Down Memory Lane recalls this week that was no little task.

As Willie Clarke, the then chair of Cowdenbeath Area Committee, said earlier this year, there is a need for the park to have its potential fully developed.

The creation of a new park visitor centre and a golf club house are major steps forward in that.

These will be up and running in 2017 and are going to increase the attraction of the park.

And it would be great to see Willie's dream of a camp site developed at the country park. He has always maintained that people should have the chance to stay on site at the park with a camp site and perhaps chalets, so maybe this will follow the two new additions to the park's facilities.

The councillors on the Area Committee have strong beliefs that the park is a real jewel in Fife's crown and that it can bring a lot of money into the area for years to come.

With the cycle track also set to be completed in 2017 it could be that Willie's dream is not too far from being a reality.
