We have been plagued by gulls nesting on our roof the last two years because of stupid people deliberately feeding them in their gardens in the Sir James Black Gait and Wright Place area. I wish I could name and shame them. Do they not understand the problems that are caused by gulls? The noise, the diving and swooping at people, their aggressive behaviour and the mess caused by their droppings, fouling washing, spreading disease and, worst of all, waking you up at daybreak with their screaming. I do not think these people would like it if the nest was on their roof.

I recently contacted Fife Council about the problem and asked if they would put some signs up, similar to the dog fouling ones, and I am pleased to say they did that. But after a day the same people were back feeding them again in their gardens. They seem to think because the feeding is on their property they can get away with this. I asked them why they were disregarding the council request and was told they were not feeding gulls but wild pigeons! How stupid. People may think they are putting food on the ground only for wild pigeons but they are also attracting gulls. If they wish to feed small garden birds then use proper bird feeders and do not throw bread on the ground.
