TOMORROW is the most important day in the Scottish political calendar, not only because it’s election day but also because it is the first time 16/17 year olds like myself are able to cast their vote.

I would like to think that the youth of the Cowdenbeath area are still politicised from the referendum in September 2014 and have registered to vote and will cast their votes properly.

The voting system used in the Scottish Parliament election is numerically complicated however for first time voters. The first ballot is for a local candidate from the respective party, such as Dave Dempsey, Alex Rowley or Annabelle Ewing.

The second ballot is a vote for the party itself, which elects members from a set regional party list.

I would urge young people to vote for what they believe in rather than what their friends or family have instructed them to do. Use your vote to reflect your political opinions and no one else’s.

The opinion polls show that there is obviously one clear winner, however opinion polls have been wrong before.

They predicted Labour would win the last General Election. I’m in two minds on making a prediction, but I’m going to say there will be gains for the SNP, Greens and the Conservatives with Labour losing seats and the Lib Dems remaining the same.
