THERE is definitely a housing crisis in the locality and that was made clear at the last meeting of Cowdenbeath Area Committee.
There is real concern among the local councillors that the lack of three and four bedroom in the various communities under their jurisdiction is posing problems for families.
Certainly earlier this year we reported on two Kelty families who needed four bedroom homes to ease strains but were facing a long wait.
According to statistics put before the committee there is a waiting list of 70 in Kelty for four bedroom property.
Now while a few new homes are about to be completed in the village these will not even make a dent on this waiting list.
Something is going to have to happen to ease the housing problems but in this time of tight purse strings it is unlikely to happen quickly.
It may be that the problem is particularly acute in Kelty but there are similar shortages in each town and village that make up the locality.
How the circle can be be squared is something the councillors are going to really struggle with.
Support from the next Scottish Government might help make it happen quicker but trying to persuade who ever is elected will not be easy.
