THE problems in Kelty with young families struggling to find four bedroom homes for renting is not going to be solved quickly.

There are moves afoot to build more homes throughout Fife with some shortly to come on-stream in the new housing estate to the north east of the village but that is unlikely to come quick enough for the two families we recently featured.

These two family units are really struggling for space in their current homes but with the lack of four bedroomed accommodation in Kelty they may have to wait for a time yet.

Over the next few years the situation will improve but it is going to need investment from both the Scottish Government and Fife Council to ease the problem.

Of course the current cash restrictions on public spending is not going to help the progress speed of the house building programme and the frustration for families like the Millars and Thomsons is completely understandable.

The Cowdenbeath Area Committee's councillors is well aware of the situation but clearly their hands are tied by what funding there is available from central sources.

Our Jury this week is very sympathetic towards the needs of these young families but it may be that patience will be needed.
