THE points made by Cowdenbeath Environment Group about the condition of the pavements on the town's High Street are something needing examined.

At a time when the road surface has been totally upgraded and there are plans to create new attractions on this main shopping thoroughfare quality paving is a big necessity.

The Enviro Group are people who take an interest in all aspects of Cowdenbeath and it is no surprise that they have been studying the pavements of High Street.

And the point they make about people parking on pavements is taking its toll on the slabs.

In Lochgelly and Cowdenbeath too many drivers seem to think it is OK to slip their vehicle onto a pavement to nip out to a shop.

That practice soon causes problems for the pavements as these are not designed to take tyres, only shoes.

They also make a good point about the lack of traffic wardens. Under the old system anyone parking on a pavement in the vicinity of High Street was nabbed by a prowling warden.

Too many simply get away with it now and make a real mess of of the paths at the same time.

So perhaps as we move towards a new look High Street something will be done to preserve the pavements.
