RESIDENTS’ concerns over the lack of turning space for large vehicles in a Benarty street are being addressed by local councillor Willie Clarke.

Residents in St Ronan’s Gardens, Crosshill, have been complaining about the situation for some time with several of them having seen their cars inadvertently struck by lorries.

Work has been started by Fife Council’s roads division on upgrading the lighting in the cul-de-sac and creating a parking area but there is no plan to improve the size of the turning space.

One of the residents, Jim Campbell, said this week that he had seen his car involved in collisions twice while it was parked in St Ronan’s Gardens and had pointed out the situation to the council.

He said, “It is good that the other work is being carried out but the major problem we have is that the likes of refuse lorries have real problems turning in our street.

“Even vans have difficulty because there is very little spare space available.

“It is not only myself who has had their car damaged others have had similar problems.” Councillor Clarke acknowledged that space is very limited in St Ronan’s Gardens, “There is no doubt that space for turning for the likes of lorries in St Ronan’s Gardens is very tight indeed.

“The provision of five new parking bays in the street may help a bit but I think there needs to be some extra provision to make it easier for larger vehicles to turn in the cul-se-sac.

“I will be speaking to the roads department to see what can be done to help the situation.”
