LOCHGELLY Centre was officially re-opened on Tuesday.

The chairman of Fife Council's housing and communities committee, Councillor Brian Goodall, performed the re-opening ceremony as the Times was going to press.

Mr Goodall began a celebratory afternoon for the whole community.

Entertainment included a rooftop performance organised by ON at Fife, who manage the facility on behalf of Fife Council.

The event showcased the new Lochgelly Centre following a £2.5 million refurbishment by Fife Council.

The new Centre has been extended and transformed and will give Fifers the chance to access a wide range of council services in addition to the theatre and arts classes it's already well known for.

The Centre now boasts the town's library and has meetings rooms and a spacious cafe facility.

The £2.5m project has made it an even more impressive community hub.

A week-long programme of free events has also been arranged to highlight the range of activities and services on offer.

Said chairman of Cowdenbeath Area Committee, Councillor Willie Clarke, "This is a great moment for Lochgelly and the area in general.

"The Centre has been really missed by the public over the last two years but I think everyone will agree the new facility has been worth the wait."

See next week's Times for full coverage of the opening in words and pictures.
