Rallying around Reece

Dr Dahlinger receives the cheque from Reece and mum Gemma.
A LOCHGELLY family this week heaped praise on staff at the neonatal unit in Kirkcaldy who helped little Reece Blelloch survive after it was discovered that he had a very rare condition only hours after he was born.
Reece, who has just celebrated his first birthday, was found to have proprionic acideamia, which affects the types of protein his body can take on board.
Indeed, mum Gemma feels that had consultant, Dr Dhalinger, notted spotted this condition, her son might not be with them today.
She told the Times, "Dr Dahlinger spotted the problem within hours of Reece coming into the world and this early detection meant that he was able to be given the sort of treatment which has helped him overcome many of the problems which could have seem him struggle to fight the condition.
"He has a difficult road ahead of him but he looks good and is a very cheery child and we felt as a family we had to do something for Dr Dahlinger and his staff in Kirkcaldy.
"Reece is now being cared for by the Sick Children's Hospital in Edinburgh, and he is responding well to their care."
The Blelloch family rallied around their youngest member and raised £2000 which was donated to the neonatal unit.
Said gran Barbara, "We know the tremendous efforts the staff down at Kirkcaldy have put in to making sure that Reece has been able to see his first birthday and we felt that they deserved our support.
"It all started with Gemma swimming with sharks at Deep Sea World, in South Queensferry, and then everything gathered pace.
"Reece's uncle, Archie McShane, has had a moustache for over 40 years but he had it waxed and removed which raised a lot of money and then Reece's cousins Scott and Dean held a sponsored silence."
Barbara said that the support they had received from the business community in Lochgelly and Cowdenbeath had been quite overwhelming.
"We received all sorts of items from businesses that we have been able to raffle and then local backers of good causes, The FunRazers, held a special night, with the backing of the management of Shardy's Nitespot, in Bank Street, Jav and Davy, which was a huge success.
"We also were very fortunate to get great backing from Hearts footballers, Ian Black and Lee Wallace, who sent strips, Dunfermline Athletic who also sent a shirt, and Glasgow Rangers and Hearts organised a tour of Ibrox for six people and two match tickets for us respectively which helped the cause.
"Staff at the Dunfermline Building Society headquarters organised a sponsored tea morning while Madge knitted a doll which we were able to raffle.
"All in all it was fantastic to get such public support and it was a nice moment to be able to go to Kirkcaldy and hand over the cheque to Dr Dahlinger."
The nenotal unit staff were quick to respond and they wrote to the Blellochs this week to say that the money was being invested in four reclining nursing chairs.
