A CAMPAIGN has been launched to save the Kelty Local Services Office.

On Saturday several members of the Community Council and users of the local office in Main Street gathered outside the office.

They fear Fife Council bosses will decide to shut the office following a meeting tomorrow (Thursday), something the council has denied.

Lochs councillors Alex Rowley and Willie Clarke joined the protest and are demanding the community be told about any plans.

Mr Rowley said, "No one apart from the council officials actually believes that the local library can take the local office, it is simply not big enough to accommodate what is needed.

"The Community Council were given assurances that no decision would be taken until there had been a proper discussion with the community.

"Now we see they want to take the decision on Thursday and then they will consult. This is simply not acceptable.

"Fife Council is behaving like something that is reminiscent of an uncaring tin pot dictatorship and it really needs to stop".

Willie Clarke added, "This local community were promised that proper dialogue would take place before any decision was taken and this has not happened.

"I am appealing to those who are being asked to rubber stamp this decision on Thursday to refuse to do so and ensure that people have the opportunity to put forward their genuine concerns and that the managers who seem determined to shut the office enter into proper dialogue with councillors and the local community."

The purpose built office at the centre of Kelty was opened in the mid-nineties as a joint project between the then Dunfermline District and Fife Regional Councils with the aim of bringing the councils and service closer to the community.

Former Provost Bob Mill and Regional Councillor Willie Rowley who fought to get the office for Kelty and were both present at the protest.
