CARDENDEN residents are among the first in Scotland to see their homes benefit from an 'energy makeover' that could save them £300 a year in fuel bills.
The Scottish Gas scheme will see improvements made to 400 homes in Bowhill, Auchterderran and part of the Jamphlars area managed by Ore Valley Housing Association.
It includes external wall insulation, loft insulation and draught proofing to reduce heat loss, as well as a communal biomass boiler and heating controls.
As a result of the improvements Scottish Gas say tenants will benefit from lower fuel bills and warmer homes.
Gearóid Lane, managing director of Communities & New Energy at Scottish Gas, said, "We're very pleased that Cardenden is one of the first areas in Scotland to receive energy saving improvements under the new Scottish Gas programme.
"It is a great example of the community, local housing provider and council in these areas working together with Scottish Gas to make residents' homes warmer and more energy efficient."
The work in Cardenden is being carried out as part of the Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP), which is a joint initiative between the government, energy suppliers and power generators to help low income communities.
