COWDENBEATH Officers deployed Speedar equipment on 41 occasions throughout June of this year, with four Fixed Penalty Tickets being issued and one driver reported to the procurator fiscal.
Locations included Cluny, Perth Road and Old Perth Road, Cowdenbeath; Cocklaw Street and Oakfield Street, Kelty; Inverkeithing Road and Springhill Brae, Crossgates; Lochleven Road, Lochore; Hill Road, Ballingry; Cardenden Road, Cardenden; Main Street, Station Road, Lochgelly; Hill of Beath and outside local primary schools.
Chief Inspector Ross Bennet said, "My staff are fully committed to making the roads safer for everyone. Our aim is to improve driver behaviour and prevent road collisions. The schools are currently on holiday and I would plead with you to take this into account when driving in built up areas. It's only natural that children will be out and about playing, please drive with consideration.
"Throughout the summer holidays my staff will be further increasing their Speedar deployments in all towns and villages in the area. If you're thinking of speeding - don't. Give your speedometer a second glace and take your foot off the gas a little. You'll get there just as quickly in any case."

I think its good that we are targetting speeding motorists in built up areas but ive always wondered why the authorities dont put up fixed speed cameras at locations such as schools and troublespots, this would slow down the traffic, I live in a 20 zone accross from a school and I regularly see people hitting over 40 going through the chicane past the school, you would think it was a racetrack,

anyone else think that 4 tickets from 41 outings shows that they probably wasted their time?

The police want to check out the speeding motorists at Craigside Road Cardenden. There are speed bumps which don't slow anyone down and speed limit signs painted on the road which nearly all motorists ignore. It is only a matter of time before a child is knocked down and injured or worse.
